Last night, ‘American Idol’ started off just like an episode of ‘The Killing’: We got the resolution to a cliffhanger that didn’t relate to the rest of the previous episode. It turned out that the cliffhanger was completely anti-climactic. Then the show moved on like nothing happened.
It’s kind of crazy that the ‘Idol’ producers decided to use the well-being of a 16-year-old as a dramatic device in this way, but I guess this is where we are in reality TV at this point. I’m not saying they shouldn’t have shown it, they just could have told us last night if she was okay or not, rather than using it as a means of luring viewers.
We also got the answer to the question nobody was really interested in: Lauren went out and Jeremy got to stick around. And you know what that means: Group Round Time!
The MVP of the night was definitely Alisha, the former cop. I never understand how the group round becomes as difficult as it does for people, and then you see somebody like Alisha and wonder how any group ever gets together.
Alisha decided to herself, “I’m going to sing either ‘Joy to the World’ or ‘Stuck Like Glue’, and I don’t care if I can’t find a single other person who wants to sing it with me. Somebody’s bending to MY will.” She then went on a diatribe of self-promotion, grabbing microphones and essentially threatening people to join her, just so long as they bent to all of her demands.
She did find a group eventually and predictably spent all of rehearsal glowering and bitching about how far along they were. Who knows? Maybe if she’d been flexible enough with her song choice to find a group early on, she wouldn’t be “so bleep-ing” far behind.
